Our tournaments have been running for 10 years now and have been a massive success from the first one. We will not let any further restrictions get in the way of running our tenth year of competitions!!! So we have organised at virtual tournament to help kickstart this years events.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
There will be 4 categories available for competitors to enter:
A) Traditional Forms (for your current rank)
B) Creative Forms (design your own)
C) Highest Jump Kick
D) Highest Standing Kick
(Select each checkbox for each category that you wish to enter when registering)
HOW IT WILL WORK
All competitors must video each category entry and send them via WhatsApp message (07877754578) or post as an Unlisted video on YouTube and send the link via email (info@phoenixsma.co.uk). Entries must be submitted by 9:00pm on Saturday 6th March or will not be counted.
NOTE videos/links will only be shared with judges panel and then deleted no more than 10 days later.
DIVISIONS
Divisions will be based on rank and age to make it as fair as possible however, ranks and some ages may need to mix depending on how many enter each category:
LIL’ DRAGONS
DIV 1 – Ages 3 & 4 (Form or technique demonstrations)
JUNIORS (ages 5 to 10)
DIV 2 – White, Grey, Yellow
DIV 3 – Orange, Green, Blue
DIV 4 – Purple, Brown, Red
DIV 5 – Snr. Red, Junior Black
YOUTH & TEENS (ages 9 to 15)
DIV 6 – White, Grey Yellow
DIV 7 – Orange, Green, Blue
DIV 8 – Purple, Brown, Red
DIV 9 – Snr. Red, Junior Black
DIV 10 – 1st Degree’s and above
TEENS & ADULTS (ages 16 and above)
DIV 11 – White, Grey, Yellow, Orange
DIV 12 – Green, Blue, Purple
DIV 13 – Brown, Red, Snr. Red
DIV 14 – Black Belts (1st to 4th Degree)
A & B) Traditional & Creative Forms Competitions
Competitors Demonstrational Procedure:
1) Each competitor will present an appropriate Form for their rank.
2) They must start in Attention Stance and bow before going to the Ready Position (Junbi) for their Form.
3) Competitors will wait 3 seconds in Junbi before starting their Form.
4) Once completed, competitors must remain in the final move for 3 seconds and then return to Junbi.
5) Once in Junbi, they will hold for 3 seconds and then go into Attention Stance and bow (this will complete the Form video).
CREATIVE FORMS – competitors are limited to approx. 30 moves. This may be done to music.
Judges Scoring Procedure:
1) Three competitors will be watched (one at a time) prior to any scores being given so that an assessment of the overall standard can be gained and appropriate scores for artistic style is awarded.
2) One set of scores will be given to each competitor based on the following:
Good balance
Control of techniques
Correct timing of hand and foot techniques
Good stances
Good flow and rhythm
Use of power
Use of speed
Effective chambering of legs/arms
Excitement & attitude of performance
3) One (1) is the minimum score that can be given
4) Five (5) is the maximum score that can be given
5) Each Judge may give the following scores: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5
6) There is no requirement for the judges to discuss the performance prior to giving the competitors score.
7) Once all competitors have presented their forms, the judge’s scores are totalled to determine the winner.
8) In the event of a “tie” for a medal place, the judges panel must re-watch the tied Forms and decide which is best. Majority vote will take the higher placement.
C) High Jump Kick
Competitors will be put into Divisions based on the age groups for Forms.
They must measure and state the distance from the floor to the target of the kick and their own height in centimetres (cms).
They can choose to do a No.3 Jump Front/Snap or Round/Turning Kick to achieve the height. The competitor must be in the air when hitting the target.
The measurement used to determine a “Winner” & Runner Up” will be the competitors height taken away from the height of the kick.
D) Highest Standing Kick
Competitors will be put into Divisions based on the age groups for Forms.
They must measure and state the distance from the floor to the target of the kick and their own height in centimetres (cms).
They can choose to do any to achieve the height. The competitor must have one foot on the floor when hitting the target.
The measurement used to determine a “Winner” & Runner Up” will be the competitors height taken away from the height of the kick.
Lil’ Dragons competitors
Competitors will show Form or techniques that they can remember from classes using any equipment they may have. There video must be no more than 2 minutes.
